DENVER – Chief Judge Timothy M. Tymkovich of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit announced today the appointment of the Honorable Joel M. Carson to the Court. President Donald J. Trump nominated Judge Carson in December 2017. Judge Carson’s nomination was confirmed by the Senate on May 15, 2018. Judge Bobby R. Baldock of the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals administered the oath of office today in Roswell, New Mexico. Judge Carson served as a law clerk to Judge Baldock from 1997 to 1999.
Prior to joining the bench, Judge Carson was a partner at the law firm of Carson Ryan LLC and a part-time magistrate judge for the District of New Mexico. His career includes serving as General Counsel of Mack Energy Corporation and as a partner at the law firm of Hinkle, Hensley, Shanor & Martin, LLP.
Judge Carson previously served as a member of the New Mexico Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission. Judge Carson received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Texas Tech University and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law.
Judge Carson’s chambers will be in Roswell. The Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals hears federal appeals from the states of Colorado, Kansas, Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming and Oklahoma. The court’s primary headquarters are in Denver, Colorado.
